The true cost of coal is unbelievable and far-reaching. Having seen with my own tear-filled eyes what mountain-top removal truly looks like (and done to some of the most beautiful of places), it is vital we get the truth out!

I agree, reduce the use of coal in comming decades. Nuclear is the real way to go with its carbon-free baseload energy.

Here in Buckhannon,WV.there was an articial on the news about 1 or 2 mo. ago talking about this area having bad teeth due to a bactria.I wonder if it is due to coal.We have drove around and there is streams around here full of an orange color muck. And I just found out I"am dibetic and the class I am going to for it ,the nurse said there is so many people that have it and I wonder if there is a connection to coal?

The costs are vast from devastated ecosystem services to decimated communites to early deaths. There's no such thing as cheap coal, and this much-needed project will help make that as clear as the mountains streams once were.

This is exactly what we need.

This is a great project, and KFTC is a great organization!

The true cost of coal is water pollution, air pollution, soil degradation, clear cutting, irreversible landscape destruction, loss of biodiversity, global warming, detrimental affects on human health, cultural genocide, violation of land rights, social injustice, destruction of beauty, violation of constitutionally recognized freedoms, and loss of life affecting coal miners, local citizens who are not employed by the coal industry, and native animals. And that's only PART of the problem. Everyone vote for The True Cost of Coal so that we can make the nation aware of how each of us- often unknowingly- participates in supporting all of the above and how we can turn that around and support a diversified, sustainable economy, sustainable energy, and a world where the environment and the people (ALL the people) are respected. KFTC is getting things done- cast your three votes to help them to do even more!

People just have no idea how much coal costs and how much is being lost because of it. We have to get the word out.

If alternative energy sources received the same governmental love as "king coal," then the true cost per Kwh of energy would approach parity. Kentuckians for the Commonwealth has a great strategy for demonstrating what coal really costs. As I write this, a headline in today's Lexington Herald Leader (Lexington, KY) speaks of the firing of the person in charge of coal mine permitting in Kentucky. He refused to approve illegal mining applications. The company in question pushed for his removal. A... more

Great project! And KFTC is a great organization. The study could be very helpful to the people of Kentucky!

Keep up the great work, KFTC! Debunking the myth of "clean coal" is crucial to the transition to sustainable enrgy, and having Kentucky lead the way in the fight to phase out the world's largest single source of greenhouse gas pollution would send a powerful message.
John Blair
People do need to know the real cost involved when it comes to coal.

I can't think of a better cause. A strong dedicated environmental and social justice organization acting both locally and globally. So often, Kentucky drags its feet and waits to be ordered around by outside organizations on all sorts of problems. This is our chance to build grassroots change right now, at home!
ricky handshoe
this is needed to show people across the country the true cost of coal

200 years of misappropriated coal wealth and environmental slaughter finally coming to an end....could it really be possible? Only if society realizes the true cost of coal! Power of the principle to KFTC, Mountain Justice, Alliance for Appalachia, OVEC, Heartwood, United Mountain Defense, Climate Ground Zero, Christians for the Mountains and all our heroic brothers and sisters......botwarble:)
